Fiscal Sponsorship - Setting up a Charity or Non-Profit to receive donations from your Chuffed campaign

Edited

This article explains how to connect a registered charity or non-profit organisation to your Chuffed campaign so they can receive and manage donations on your group's behalf.

My group isn't a registered charity. Can we partner with one to receive donations?

If you're fundraising as a grassroots group, informal collective, or community organisation, you may choose to partner with a registered charity or non-profit to receive and manage donations on your behalf. This is sometimes called a fiscal hosting or auspicing arrangement.

In this setup, the registered charity or non-profit (the "fiscal host") accepts donations through your campaign on your group's behalf. They take on the financial and legal responsibilities — including issuing tax-deductible receipts where applicable — while your campaign continues to represent your cause to donors.

Does Chuffed support fiscal host arrangements?

Yes — but there are two important things to know before you get started.

  • Chuffed can't find a fiscal host for you. We don't act as a fiscal host ourselves, and we're unable to recommend or connect you with one. You'll need to approach a charity or non-profit directly.

  • You need the charity's approval before setting anything up. A fiscal hosting arrangement is a formal relationship — the charity is taking on real financial and legal responsibilities on your behalf. Make sure you have a written Letter of Authorization/Authority to Fundraise (sometimes called an auspicing agreement or fiscal sponsorship agreement) from the charity before proceeding, and that you've discussed how funds will be received, managed, and passed on.

Once a charity has agreed to act as your fiscal host, follow the steps below to connect them to your campaign.

How to set up a fiscal host arrangement on Chuffed

Step 1: Invite the charity/non-profit organisation to your campaign

i) Ensure you are logged into your Chuffed account

ii) Open your campaigns dashboard (https://chuffed.org/dashboard)

iii) Click the ‘Manage’ button to Edit your campaign

iv) Go to Team Setup > Administrators > Add Team Member

v) Enter the name of the fiscal host/ charity organisation and invite them to edit the campaign by entering their email.

vi) Click on Save & Continue

Step 2: Set up the organisation name

i) Navigate to ‘Optional Features > Organisation Setup

ii) Toggle ON "I am fundraising for an organisation / group"

iii) Name the organisation using this format:

[Legal name of fiscal host] on behalf of [name donors will recognise]

For example: "Greenpeace Australia Pacific Limited on behalf of Climate Action Sydney"

iv) Toggle ON the “Yes, we are a deductible gift recipient (DGR)" setting to enable Tax Deductible Receipts  (Australia, Canada, US & UK only).

You'll need to enter their charity details so Chuffed can issue tax-deductible receipts — or, in the UK, collect Gift Aid information.

Step 3: Add in the Fiscal Host's payment information

All donations must go directly to the fiscal host, not to your group. The fiscal host needs to log into their own Chuffed account to add the Payment details. Once they are logged in go to the campaign’s dashboard and follow the below steps:

i) Navigate to  Campaign Setup > Payment Setup

ii) Connect to Stripe. They can log-in to their existing Stripe account if one exists or Set-Up a New Stripe account.

Step 4: Ongoing access for the fiscal host

Once set up, the fiscal host will have:

  • Access to all donor reports for the campaign

  • All transactions in their Stripe or PayPal account tagged with Chuffed metadata

  • Permission to view, discuss, and make changes to the campaign

Already running a campaign? You can still add a fiscal host.

If your campaign has already launched and received donations, you can transition to a fiscal hosting arrangement at any time by following the steps above.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Only donations made after the transition will be receipted and transferred to the fiscal host

  • Existing regular (recurring) donations will not automatically transfer to the fiscal host. If your campaign has a significant number of recurring donors, please contact the Chuffed Support Team at support@chuffed.org  before making the switch.
